Sawadhee Khaa!
Today, I want to complete my last mission, yap! writing the last school report!
You guys who want to know more about my daily routines in Chiang Rai, you can scroll down my post. I have written day by day. 🙂
Purpose of the practicum
Teaching Practice is always my something to be nervous. Moreover, I teach in another country, Thailand. In everything will be an ease and a difficulty, So do I. I meet everything that I have to face whether it is good or bad.
Teaching grammar is not easy as you think, It is difficult to explain moreover we have a different language to speak with. Teaching passive voice is one of only chosen topic for teaching practice. So, What is the Purpose of Practicum in passive voice topic?
- Students will be able to know the formula for passive voice sentence. The basic of learning the passive voice is actually know about the active sentence formula, It will be more exhausting teaching if the students don’t know the formula for it. for me when I teach the formula is very challenging. Lucky me, I am helped Khroo Nee to explain the formula. it will be easier when Khroo Nee explains it any more.
- Students will be able to make passive voice sentence passing voice through the activities which are conducted with group discussion.
- Students will be able to use passive voice in daily life. this Purpose is applicated in the task or homework that I give to them at the end of the class. As I see, most of them write some example which is in the daily life.
Despite these purpose of practicum, I give them the games also to show them that learning is not too serious like others class. It can be fun, all of the material also can be applicated in games or the daily life. I also attach the example with the daily life relations, I hope them understand which I give them the daily life content.
Procedures of Practicum
My Procedures of the practicum is written into Lesson Plan that I used for teaching. Actually, I arranged these procedures according to my experience when teaching in Indonesia. These are my procedures of Practicum for teaching passive voice for Mathayom 5. This lesson plan is the guidelines for me for teaching also this is not absolute lesson plan but rather can be changed or rearranged according to the situation in the class. For the example, I conducted twice games in Mathayom 5/4 because the students are fast learner so they can learn fast which has spare time to do the game again. While in Mathayom 5/1 I have to repeat the material when the meeting because The students are slow learner so I have to do that and conduct once the game.

The outcomes of practicum
By seeing my procedures, there are 4 kinds of teaching step: Bridge or warmer, Presentation, Practice and Production. Each of the steps has outcomes, they are:
- Bridge or warmer which conducted by games: they understand the background of the passive voice, that is the active sentence. Then, It also helps them to try to make a word because as we know that they vocabularies need to be improved.
- Presentation: the outcome is the student’s understanding. Although Khroo Nee has to teach them again with Thailand language it can be understandable. In Mathayom 5/2, I ever teach them without Khroo Nee. They understand with my teaching even I know they are English major.
- Practice: it is the practice of the material, this part is to check the student’s understanding which I still guide and control them while doing the practice. I do practice by asking the students to make some sentences in the passive sentence.
- Production: This is the last outcomes this is the written tense in pair work. This is also to check the student’s understandable.
I also hope that my teaching will be understandable for them. I hope when Khroo Nee or other teachers explain it to them again, they have understood or at least they have to know about the formula because they have been thought by me although some of them are still confused about it.
Challenges of practicum
What are the challenges of practicum?
Wherever we are, it will be challenged to be faced. Just like others my teaching experiences, I am nervous to teach them, but I can control my self because I have done some teaching practice before in Indonesia. I remember how I overcome my feeling. Thus, The most difficult thing and challenges are when they don’t understand about my explanation in English and they don’t understand my command. I have tried to use my body language and also use the simple vocabularies to speak. I wonder If the teacher doesn’t use the English language when teaching it wouldn’t enhance their ability in speaking. When I give them a game, it is also difficult because they don’t understand my command, so I have to repeat more and more.
The students’ attendance also becomes my challenges. I am worried about my time period in teaching because it has 50 minutes only, meanwhile, the students are very late to enter the class which means reduce my time for teaching. I have a story for you. I ever cried because of the students. In that day, I have time to teach at Mathayom 5/2, but when I enter the class none students there, there are only 4 students there. two of them sleep and for the rest play their gadget. I have asked them about the others students, they said they have a meeting with the teachers. I wonder why the teacher asks the students to have a meeting in the study time. Moreover, Khroo Nee is late to enter the class due to has a meeting to discuss Chinese New Year. In that time is near with Chinese New Year, so they will celebrate it and prepare for it. Then, about 20 minutes before the time is up, Khroo Nee comes and asks what happen, I explain the truth. Then, others students come to the class. I cry and I hide it. Khroo Nee asks me whether I will teach or not, and I said I am not sure to teach them. Then, Khroo Nee teaches them.
It is the same story with the students of M 5/1, they are very late and sometimes they permit the toilet and don’t join the class anymore. I have to teach them although it is just 5 students there.
What is your Overall impression?
The overall impression is even life here is challenging I like to survive here. I like Thai people, the way they love their country, they faith, and everything. The students are also very lovely although they can’t speak English they want to have a conversation with me. I also feel grateful because I am given the chance to have many experiences in global experiences. I am also very pleased because I can teach the students from others country which I don’t know the language, the culture, and etc.
Actually, I never dream of being here, but God gives me chance to go abroad. I really feel how to survive in this country, even though I am Muslim but Thailand people are very welcome to me. I get many moral values from Thai People and Thai culture. In my mind, Thai people have high nationalism and they are really proud of their country. The people also are very friendly to me.
I also can applicate my Major’s motto “Learning beyond the classroom walls” which means we can study everywhere and whenever. I really learn how to be open-minded with others people which are different from me. Because we are forever learner which will take good things wherever we are. Thank you to everyone who has helped me in this program. 🙂 Khop khun khaa
Then, What your suggestions For Future Improvement?
My suggestion for future improvement of myself is I have to enhance my public speaking, especially in teaching. As a teacher I have to be a multitalented person, I have to study many things to support my teaching practice in activities. and I have to prepare many things before I go abroad especially in Thailand, Actually, I can study Thai so it will help me to support me in the class. But I give up because of it quite difficult for me hehe
To be a teacher you have to have a large of patient and ton of smiles. Because what is your mood today will give an effect to your students.
This is not the end of my journey, It might be a step to reach another dream that I have. For everyone who has many dreams. Try! and ask your God your best 🙂
